The play – written by the author in 2009 – is based on a short story of the same title from his book Štěstí (Happiness), a collection of short stories drawing from the author’s personal experiences as a political prisoner in the 1950s which was first published in 1969 and instantly banned prior to its distribution. It didn’t see the light of day until the early 1990s.
Jiří Stránský was personally involved in the preparations for staging the play but was forced to “depart” during them and is now observing the fate of his characters from a different realm…
Fortunately, he was so foresightful as to ensure that key persons in the creative team included his daughter, Klára Formanová, and granddaughters, Josefina Formanová and Antonie Formanová. Through them Jiří Stránský’s presence is felt to this day…
