The play – written by the author in 2009 – is based on a short story of the same title from his book Štěstí (Happiness), a collection of short stories drawing from the author’s personal experiences as a political prisoner in the 1950s which was first published in 1969 and instantly banned prior to its distribution. It didn’t see the light of day until the early 1990s.
