„The Winter's Tale is an extraordinary, magical play. It is one of Shakespeare’s last plays and it gives the impression of drawing on his whole life experience. It is cut crystal. When looking through it, it seems as if the world splits into hundreds of fragments. You see love in one of the fragments and hatred right behind it. Self-seeking, stupidity, all shades of egoism in another one and a good heart behind them, like in a fairytale. We see death behind birth, sadness behind happiness, poetry behind shallowness. It is a world where nothing is what it seems, sometimes even the characters of the story do not know who they really are. Children enjoy looking at the world through a piece of glass and I am beginning to understand why. A bizarre, fragmented image of the world is more interesting and true than the reality as a whole. As every reality is, nevertheless, composed of little bits.“
